California Highlights

I've attempted to write the "back from California" entry about six different times here, but it's too overwhelming. There's just so much we did, too much to say and no proper way to sum it all up. So, here are a few highlights point form style:

- Shopping in San Francisco - everything you want is there!!
- Finally finding my Criterion Collection of Carnival of Souls, plus purchasing Devil Doll, The Tingler and the Criterion Collection of The Blob. Amoeba Music is officially my favourite store in the world!
- All of the Full House sites we visited (obviously, the picture above is one of them).
- Musee Mecanique - not enough time or quarters were spent here, so I know I'll visit San Francisco again if only for the purpose of visiting this museum again.
- San Francisco's transit system is the best transit system I've ever been on.
- Driving through a near hurricane along the Big Sur - scariest experience of my life, but happy to have lived through it.
- Seeing what Oscar night is like in Hollywood (really, it's not as exciting as you'd think. haha)
- California sunshine, hot weather, beach visits, bike rides and girly drinks.
- Appearing on Jimmy Kimmel
- Being a kid again at Disneyland
- Feeling so happy and refreshed to be home, with a new attitude and so much optimism!

I found out while talking to my mom on a dirty payphone on Sunset Blvd (and also seeing Rainn Wilson from the Office walk by!!), that I've been accepted to teacher's college. I start in May and couldn't be more excited! I've never felt so certain about doing something. Okay, well, sometimes I worry that I won't make a good teacher because it's such a tough and important job, but once I was surrounded by children at Disneyland, I felt so much warmth in my heart, how could I not want to be around children every day of my life? Mind you, children at Disneyland are very different than children at school, BUT I'm totally up for the challenge, know it'll be so rewarding and I'll love it. I can't wait to get started!

Congratulations on the acceptance to teacher's college, Katie! I love that you call teaching "a tough and important job" - I know too many people who've gone into teaching because they think the job is a cakewalk, and that makes me sad. Anyway, I know that you are going to be an awesome teacher!

thanks. there's nothing more annoying than when people think teaching is an easy job. having a mom as a teacher totally showed me how hard teaching is and all the extra hours outside of the school that go into teaching. it actually scared me for a number of years, but i think i'm ready for it now.

Congratulations on getting into grad school Katie! I couldn't think of a more fitting profession for you....just think, if you could survive the YMCA, you can definitely handle being a teacher :)

Oh, and glad you had a fun time in Cali....I hope you blasted 2Pac's "California Love" while cruising the streets of L.A.
