Taa daa!! It's my new zine! I'm very pleased with how it turned out. As I was putting it together, I was like "Ugh. This is so much work. I'm never gonna do this again" but now I'm already thinking about what will be in the next issue. Hopefully, the next issue will be a bit easier to make because I'll have some contributors writing articles and reviews (this issue is all done on my own with the exception of one review and the cover). And hopefully, I'll make it when I'm not writing midterms.

Anyway, here's more zine info if you'd like a copy.

I'm incredibly excited about Halloween. For the first time in years, I think I have a really funny and creative costume, I'm proud I managed to put together. I've been keeping it a secret, so I think I'll post a picture in my next entry after Halloween.

After months years of waiting, I finally got to see New Kids on the Block. As I used to say as a child, "it was like a dream come true."

Everything about this concert was amazing. I'm still speechless, so here's my pictures from the show.

Sonia found floor tickets in Cleveland, so I think we might make a roadtrip to see them again.

I went to see Cheap Trick, Heart and Journey on Friday. It was one of the best concerts I've been to because not only did the bands rock, but the crowd was so entertaining. My favourite scenes from the concert included:

- Adorable family of four in front of us. The eight year old son kept on wanting to nap through the whole concert, but when Guitar Hero and Rock Band songs were played, he woke up to rock out.
- Heart covered the Who's "Love, Reign o'er Me" and when Ann Wilson started to sing the lyrics "Only love, can make it rain", it began to pour rain and then when the song finished, the rain stopped. It was unreal, like it was planned or fake rain for the song.
- Hardcore Journey fans beside me. 60 year old party lady slow danced with her husband to "Faithfully" and minutes later she danced with a group of 20 year old guys. I couldn't keep my eyes off this woman. First she was high-fiving and rocking out with the 20 year old guys, then swaying with them to Journey's slower songs and then grinding with her husband and then almost giving a lap dance to one of the younger guys.

Man, I love witnessing stuff like that. I need to go to more classic rock shows!

Oh, here's my favourite Journey music video
. This might be my favourite music video from the 80's, minus "You Dropped a Bomb on Me" by The Gap Band.

I often wonder what my favourite dog breeds would look like if they were mixed. Here's my answer:

Have you ever seen anything so adorable in your life? Incase you were wondering what the mix is, it's 1/4 pug, 1/4 boston terrier and 1/2 french bulldog. that sounds like a recipe for CUTENESS!!

These dogs are actually for sale on kijiji right now and it's taking everything in me not to buy one!! Please leave comments convincing me. I need one of these guys in my life, don't I?

I don't understand why Canada has never been very accepting of Cherry Coke, or maybe I should say Cherry Coke has never been very accepting of Canada. I remember Cherry Coke finally came to Canada around '98, but then it disappeared. Now that I'm in the States on a daily basis, I'm constantly dropping by Tops and Wegman's to pick up some necessary items us Canadians don't have and shouldn't live without. These includes:

- Archer's Farms cereals
- Dunkin' Donuts coffee grinds (I also must mention my love for their iced coffee!!)
- Crazy flavours of Coffee-Mate (my new favourite being creme brulee)
- Coca-Cola Cherry Zero!

I don't know what I'll ever do if I have to move far from the US border because I now feel like I can't live without these items. Also, my classmates have started teasing me because of the number of times I visit Target each week (every other day, sometimes more).

Oh, I'm doing my placement at a summer school, teaching kindergarten failures. Yes, it's possible to fail kindergarten. I don't remember having to read and write full sentences by the end of kindergarten, but these days you do. Anyway, the kids are hilarious! I have to stop myself from laughing every time they talk about pee and poo and say "That's not appropriate." It's tough. haha.

This one kid was telling me about how he plans to dress up as Michael Jackson for Halloween and is always singing "Thriller" in class. Ah, these kids are awesome and the progress they're making is amazing. I don't know what I'm gonna do when summer school is over and who knows if I'll ever see them again? *tears*

I started teacher's college and it's a lot of work. More work than the average teacher's college program because we're suppose to complete everything in less than a year. Craziness! Which explains why I haven't updated here and shouldn't even be right now. I have a presentation on Pragmatism, Existentialism and Postmodernism relating to education tomorrow!! Eeeek!!!

Anyways, right before I started school, I started this blog, which I don't write in enough, so I thought I'd just give you the link since I write in it more than I do in this one: http://sobaditsgoodmovies.blogspot.com/

i'm typing this from my new computer. incase you were wondering why i barely update this like i used to, it's because my computer shutdown every few minutes, so i just gave up on my computer. but i just got a new one, so i thought i'd write this entry to tell you I GOT NEW KIDS ON THE BLOCK TICKETS!!! it's so awesome they're having their first actual concert, in over 15 years, in Toronto and it's so awesome that i got tickets for a show that sold out in 4 minutes, and it's so awesome i paid $90 for my ticket. i can't remember which was my most expensive concert ticket, new kids on the block or morrissey? haha

anyway, i was lucky enough to have friday off work, so i was able to catch the new kids performance on the today show. i have MANY observations about this performance, but i think my favourite one is that jonathan knight takes a puff of a cigarette before he performs and throws it off to the side. if you watch this youtube clip, it's at 25 seconds.

i know since i watched the e true hollywood story on the new kids that jonathan has major performance anxiety. i have a feeling jonathan knight is not going to make it through the whole tour, so i'm glad toronto is the first show. now i just hope jonathan makes it to september.

It's my birthday!! I've already had a surprise birthday party held by some of my friends last night. I've also got a couple birthday dinners and my real rock n' roll birthday party next weekend. It's like a whole week of celebration. I feel like such a lucky girl (or maybe I should say woman now). All this love from friends and family makes me even happier I was born 26 years ago today.

Tonight I'm gonna celebrate my birthday with two of my most favourite things right now:

This TV movie starring Gary Coleman is the BEST, most hilarious movie. I watched it by myself and I was making jokes by myself (how dorky), so I'm gonna show this to Erin and Nuno. Actually, I'll probably end up showing it to every one I know at some point. Like Troll 2 or the Body Flex video. So friends - be prepared!! If you thought Gary Coleman is creepy, just wait until you see this.

I'm opening up my $70 bottle of Sparkling Icewine. This stuff is DA SHIT! haha. It's sweet icewine that dances on your tongue. You know how wine magazines will often do wine and music or movie pairings? Well, this is my ultimate wine and movie pairing. Super amazing sparkling icewine with super horrible gary coleman movie.

Years before the Internet (so a friggin' long time ago!!), I saw a news segment on a Buffalo news station about a toy museum in the Western New York area. I wanted so badly to go there, but of course, it was years before I had my license and couldn't convince my parents to take me. Over ten years later, I suddenly had a flash back of watching this news segment, so I went to the net and researched this toy museum to see if it still exists. I found their website and found it was less than an hour away from my house!

Erin and I went to the Toy Town Museum, expecting that it would probably be super lame, but were surprised to find it was AMAZING!!! (My pictures found here) This museum is located in East Aurora, NY, which is also the birth place of Fisher-Price in the 1930's. The majority of their collection consists of vintage Fisher-Price toys, which is cool, but there's also many other toys and the robots and puppets from the Buffalo station, WKBW Channel 7 shows Rocketship 7 AND Commander Tom. My memories of these shows are super hazy even though I watched them every weekend until '91. I know they introduced me to Davey and Goliath, which I still watch to this day. I've been researching Rocketship 7, Commander Tom and the city of Buffalo in general and I can barely pull myself away from the research to write this entry!!

Buffalo is a unique city because unlike many big cities, it's buildings have remained untouched after it's economic decline, rather than torn down. From 1900 to 1960, the city was economically booming, but after 1960, it basically went in a recession it's never been able to raise itself out of. So all the buildings built in the prosperous time still remain and have barely been touched since the 60's. Over the past year, I've explored many areas of Buffalo and felt as though I was in a time warp. It's really awesome!!

So, I've made it my new hobby to visit more of these areas in Buffalo and I found this website, Forgotten Buffalo, which has also become a great resource for this research. I plan to attend all of their Forgotten Buffalo Tours. I'm so excited!!

Man, I know this entry sounds so scattered, but it's just been such a chain reaction. Basically, everyone I know thinks Western New York is "sooo far away" because it's in a different country, but really, it's so close and even though the city looks as though it's falling apart, it holds so much history. I can't help but be completely fascinated by it all.

Don't get me wrong, I still love Welland, it's my home...but what's great about living in this area is that you're a short drive to places like Buffalo, Cleveland, Pittsburgh, etc. I've made it my goal to take advantage of this as much as possible until I decide to move somewhere else.

We threw Scillies an awesome birthday party at Bowl-O-Rama in Welland. We had kiddie sunglasses (a tradition for his birthday), silly string and balloons. Yep, we're nerds, but it was a blast!

This song always puts me in the BEST MOOD EVER!! I'm so happy I found the music video and it's just as awesome.

This is the second pay day in a row that my work has totally screwed up my pay. And of course, not in a good way. I feel like Milton Waddams!!

It's April! You know what that means? My birthday is coming up. I've decided the theme for my birthday party this year should be Guitar Hero! I know, everyone is pretty much over it by now. It's old news. Whatever, I still wanna have it as the theme for my birthday party. That way, the attention of turning 26 will shift to the attention of crowning the ULTIMATE GUITAR HERO! I like to think I'm pretty good at the game, but I know compared to some of my friends, there's no way I'll win the title. Anyways, more news and invitations will come soon.

* * *

I'm sick right now. I haven't been sick in a while, so I'm trying to appreciate this. Like there's a million things I wanna go out and do right now, but I can't since I'm sick. I know when I'm better, they will be so much more enjoyable because I've been cooped up in my house the past few days.

It's not such a bad thing because I've been watching many episodes of Mystery Science Theater 3000. The best episode is by far Horrors of Spider Island. This movie would be hilarious even without the MST3K commentary, but with it, makes it 10x more hilarious. This one might become another bad movie obsession of mine.

I've been thinking of places I'd like to either live or at least visit in the next few years and I've decided that Austin, Texas tops the list. Here is a list of some of the reasons Austin appeals so much to me:

- it has the unofficial slogan "Keep Austin Weird"
- warm climate
- is a liberal city among a conservative state
- considered the "Live Music Capital of the World"
- is the home of a number of awesome festivals
- the Alamo Drafthouse (which shows lots of cult movies)
- is the city that first embraced Daniel Johnston!
- has many cool ratings like #2 Best Big City in places to live (Money Magazine), Greenest City in America (MSN), #2 city with best people (referring to personality and attributes, by CNN)

So yes, my next vacation will be to Austin.

I know it sounds crazy, but the closing of my neighbourhood gas station, Rebel has made me quite sad. This place is older than I am and what I consider an essential part of Welland. Man, I have childhood memories of getting gas here in our Skylark and LeSabre. I hate seeing my hometown change and local businesses go under. This is seriously a sad day.

Man, I watch too much TV and I haaate when the Home Made Simple Squad comes on. If you don't know what I'm talking about, go to this website an watch their commercials. However, what I DO like about the Home Made Simple Squad is Kim Woodburn's braids on the top of her head. How does she do that hair? I hope she makes a Hair Braid Simple Squad and let's me be a part of it.

If you've been following my journal for a while, you may remember my excitement for the release of Wii. Then my enthusiasm died down and then I didn't touch the thing for at least six months and considered selling it.

Boy, I'm glad I didn't! Shaun and Leslie got me 2000 Wii points for Christmas. I bought a special Wii old school controller and had to wait for my Wii to acknowledge my wireless Internet (took over a month), but finally I got the Wii and wirelessness working and downloaded some of my favourite old Nintendo games.

First I downloaded Adventure Island, Bubble Bobble and Mario Kart 64 (definitely my favourite of all the Mario Karts, even more so than Double Dash). I was so pumped about having these new games, I decided to buy 2000 more Wii points. Now I have Metriod, Kid Icarus, Yoshi (the original puzzle game) and Super Mario 3 (so I can re-enact Video Armageddon in the Wizard).

I'm so hooked on these old games. They give me such a rush of nostalgia and just a rush in general. I've realized why I went through months without touching my Wii (haha, that sounds funny). I like kickin' it OLD SKOOL!

Games like Bubble Bobble, Metriod and Kid Icarus are ones I never owned as a kid, however I borrowed them from my Lucas Barton neighbour of the street, Andy Skin. I always wanted them, so now I feel like I'm building my childhood dream collection of Nintendo games I never had.

What's also awesome, is that when you play games like Mario 3 and decide to take a break, you can turn off the system and pick up back where you started. You could never do that on the original Nintendo. Sometimes I would play a game in the morning before I went to school, press pause and continue where I left off when I got home from school. Now that I don't have to do that, I think there's an actual chance I can finally beat Mario 3 - start to finish - without warping! BEAT THAT JIMMY WOODS!

Games the Wii Channel needs to release: Adventure Island 2 and DUCKTALES.

I have to do this entry quick because my computer is balls and keeps on crashing every couple minutes.

Here are my two favourite eggs I made for Easter:

I was going to also show you a picture of all my easter eggs, but Photobucket's new features is balls as well.

I wish I had the option of making a Chewbacca egg...or better yet, Turkish Star Wars eggs!!

* * *
I'm so excited about Easter and Spring. It felt like it was never going to show up, but then the time changed and we've been getting more sunny days, so even though there's still lots of snow on the ground and it's cold outside, I have faith that it will be appearing soon. I'm so excited to wear my flats and new white looks-very-80's-but-I-think-I-can-pull-it-off spring jacket.

A trip to Target this weekend totally got me in the Easter mood. Look what I picked up:

Plush peeps for my Easter basket. Too cute!!

I also bought a couple egg decorating kits. Hello Kitty and this Star Wars one:

The Star Wars one looks too funny, so maybe I'll take pictures of my results after I make them this weekend. Speaking of this weekend, Erin and Nuno are hosting an Easter brunch and I decided I want to make the best carrot muffins ever!! However, I don't have a recipe. If anyone knows of a real great carrot muffin recipe, can you forward it to me? Or maybe I'll just make one up? haha.

Most of my nights are spent watching weird movies. I have the occasional night of sippin' hot chocolate and watching paradise hotel with friends, but I never really go out drinking anymore. I don't have the money and this strange thing has happened where if I have more than 1 or 2 drinks, I feel like barfing...so, basically, I don't drink anymore and it's kinda nice, even though I guess it makes me a little antisocial.

But anyways, watching movies almost every night has been starting to bore me, so I've decided to take up a new hobby: comics and graphic novels!!

I read Ghost World when I was in grade 10, quite a few years before the movie, and it was so relatable to me at the time. You know how generations of teenagers have come to relate to Catcher in the Rye? Well, I feel like Ghost World was my Catcher in the Rye. Kinda made me feel cooler about being a teenage outsider in the mid-90's. I also read quite a few Eightballs, Optic Nerve and I think maybe some Sof' Boy...but, I didn't go any further than that.

I feel like there's a comic revival going on and it's never too late to get into comics. It's not like the 50's, where they were just made for kids and about super heroes, ya know? So, Nuno let me borrow Jimmy Corrigan, the Smartest Kid on Earth and Bone and then I went out and bought the Best American Comics 2007.

I've already read a few of the comics in this collection and they're great. I'm hoping with this new interest, I'll have reason to bring myself to Toronto's Comic Convention next August, because I've always wanted to go for the experience, but have never felt like a big enough fan of comics to go.

Anyways, anyone reading who reads comics and could suggest any to me, please do. I'm just a beginner. hehe.

I've attempted to write the "back from California" entry about six different times here, but it's too overwhelming. There's just so much we did, too much to say and no proper way to sum it all up. So, here are a few highlights point form style:

- Shopping in San Francisco - everything you want is there!!
- Finally finding my Criterion Collection of Carnival of Souls, plus purchasing Devil Doll, The Tingler and the Criterion Collection of The Blob. Amoeba Music is officially my favourite store in the world!
- All of the Full House sites we visited (obviously, the picture above is one of them).
- Musee Mecanique - not enough time or quarters were spent here, so I know I'll visit San Francisco again if only for the purpose of visiting this museum again.
- San Francisco's transit system is the best transit system I've ever been on.
- Driving through a near hurricane along the Big Sur - scariest experience of my life, but happy to have lived through it.
- Seeing what Oscar night is like in Hollywood (really, it's not as exciting as you'd think. haha)
- California sunshine, hot weather, beach visits, bike rides and girly drinks.
- Appearing on Jimmy Kimmel
- Being a kid again at Disneyland
- Feeling so happy and refreshed to be home, with a new attitude and so much optimism!

I found out while talking to my mom on a dirty payphone on Sunset Blvd (and also seeing Rainn Wilson from the Office walk by!!), that I've been accepted to teacher's college. I start in May and couldn't be more excited! I've never felt so certain about doing something. Okay, well, sometimes I worry that I won't make a good teacher because it's such a tough and important job, but once I was surrounded by children at Disneyland, I felt so much warmth in my heart, how could I not want to be around children every day of my life? Mind you, children at Disneyland are very different than children at school, BUT I'm totally up for the challenge, know it'll be so rewarding and I'll love it. I can't wait to get started!
